As a parent, you naturally want the best for your baby. But how do you find the right products for caring for their sensitive skin? It is important to realize that a baby's skin is different from that of an adult and therefore requires special care. Babies and young children, for example, are more prone to eczema, red rashes, acne, or dry skin. That is why, together with sleep and rest expert Melanie, we would like to give some tips on the optimal care for your little one.
Melanie speaking: The first 1000 days are incredibly important, from conception up to 24 months. Everything that happens during this period affects the rest of your child's life. Think about what food you give, but also what kind of care products you use. When parents come to me for a Sleep & Rest consultation, I look holistically at the sleep problem. They also receive samples of natural care products from me. With this, I want to give parents a little push in the right direction so they can give their child a good start from all sides.
1. Choose natural
Currently, there are many care products on the market that are 'specially made for babies'. Because all these products are sold specifically for babies, as a parent you assume that they must be good for your child. Unfortunately, this is not the case. Your baby's skin is sensitive and can easily become irritated by harsh chemicals. Therefore, choose natural products that are gentle on your baby's skin. The products of Happy Earth Baby are made from 100% natural ingredients and are free from chemicals.
2. Watch out for perfume
Many care products contain substances that disrupt hormone balance and act neurotoxically, such as perfume. Also avoid Phenoxyethanol, which is a chemical bactericide that can cause respiratory irritation, headaches, and disturbed central nervous system function when inhaled. It also dries out the skin because it has a degreasing effect. Other ingredients to avoid are SLS, ALES, silicones, parabens, mineral oils, PEG, and all types of aluminum. Happy Earth Baby products are free from all these chemicals and the perfume consists of natural essential oils.
3. Be careful with eczema
Eczema is something I unfortunately see often. It is a common condition in babies and can be worsened by harsh care products. Therefore, choose hypoallergenic products without harsh chemicals so the skin does not get irritated and dry out further.
4. Prevent diaper rash
Keep your baby's diaper area clean and dry to prevent diaper rash. Change the diaper regularly and use a soft cloth to clean the area. Also apply a thin layer of natural diaper ointment or cream to protect the skin. For example, choose the Happy Earth zinc diaper cream
5. Avoid too much bathing
Although bathing your baby is important, too much bathing can also dry out the skin. Therefore, keep bath time short and use a mild soap specially designed for babies such as the Soap-free Wash & Bath Gel from Happy Earth
