SLS/SLES in shampoo: what is it and why should you avoid it?

SLS/SLES in shampoo: wat is het en waarom kan je het beter vermijden?

When it comes to our daily care products, such as shampoo, we are all looking for what is best for our hair and scalp. It is sometimes difficult to determine from the long list of ingredients what is actually in it! An ingredient to keep a close eye on is SLS or SLES. This is often added to hair care, but is a harmful sulfate that is best avoided.

SLS / SLES will appear on your ingredients list as Sodium Lauryl Sulfate or Sodium Laureth Sulfate. This is a powerful cleanser that is often added to shampoos because it is an inexpensive ingredient and foams well. Although foam may seem positive, SL(E)S actually does more harm than good for your hair and scalp. SL(E)S is a chemical ingredient known to strip the natural oils from your hair and scalp, leaving them dry and irritated. This can lead to an itchy scalp, dandruff and even hair loss with excessive use.

Shampoo bars

Happy Earth shampoo bars consist of 100% natural ingredients such as shea butter, jojoba oil and sunflower oil. They are zero waste and available in Volume & Shine to give your hair a natural boost and Repair & Care for extra gentle care.
